On Wednesday, Oct. 2 in the late morning (after our hike to Cerro Dragon), some guests went deep-water snorkeling along Guy Fawkes Islets and others returned to the beach, but Kevin & I decided to lounge on deck, read, and relax.

| Those are my toes here on the sun deck. |

| But due to the wind and strength of the sun, we stayed in the protected area. (This is also where the morning stretch class takes place and the snorkeling gear is stored.) |
Lunch today was a fabulous Ecuadorean buffet. I wish I could tell you all the delightful things we had, but I didn't write them down. I can tell you it was colorful and delicious!

During lunch the ship repositioned to yet another site on Santa Cruz Island. This was the section of the coast called "El Eden". We explored this area in the Zodiacs. Some groups saw white-tipped sharks, common in the mangrove shallows, but we did not. Our wildlife sightings were mainly sea birds and sea lions, but the many aspects of the coast (mangroves, beaches, rocks, and caldera walls) were very scenic.

Back on board the Endeavour we had a champagne party on the foredeck at sunset, followed by a delightful sea bass dinner.

Let me just say a word about the sunrise & sunset at the equator. There are basically 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night, no matter the time of year. The length of the day only varies by about 22 minutes throughout the year. So sunrise was around 6 AM every morning and sunset around 6 PM every evening. And there is not much "twilight"--it's day, then it's night.
