Our trip to the Galápagos Islands began Thursday, September 26 with a flight from Green Bay, WI to Miami, FL via the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport.

We spent the night at Homewood Suites--Blue Lagoon near the airport.

Friday we flew from Miami to Guayaquil, Ecuador, where we met many of our fellow travelers and spent the night at the Hotel Hilton Colón.

Early the next morning we were bussed to the airport for our flight to the islands.

We landed at San Cristobal airport (which is mostly under construction), met some of our naturalist guides, and boarded buses to the harbor. We encountered our first sea lions and took our first Zodiac rides out to our ship, the National Geographic Endeavour.

The ship's guest accommodations were not quite full--we had 80-some guests. We settled in, had an orientation and delicious buffet lunch (highlight was potato-cheese-avacado soup!), and got ready for our first outing.
